چکیده

An efficient disparity estimation algorithm for multi-view video sequences, recorded by a two-dimensional camera array in which the cameras are spaced equidistantly, is presented. Because of the strong geometrical relationship among views, the disparity vectors of a certain view can for most blocks be derived from the disparity vectors of other views. A frame constructed using that idea is called a D frame in this work. Three new prediction schemes which contain D frames are proposed for encoding 5 3 multi-view video sequences. The schemes are applied to several multi-view image sequences taken from a camera-array and they are compared in terms of quality, bit-rate and complexity. The experimental results show that the proposed prediction schemes significantly decrease the complexity of the encoder at a very low cost of quality and/or bit-rate. 2011 Elsevier Inc. Multi-view video coding with view interpolation prediction for 2D camera arrays

An efficient compression algorithm for multi-view video sequences, which are captured by two-dimensional (2D) camera arrays, is proposed in this work. First, we propose a novel prediction structure, called three-dimensional hierarchical B prediction (3DHBP), which can efficiently reduce horizontal inter-view redundancies, vertical inter-view redundancies, and temporal redundancies in multi-view...

Overview of View Synthesis Prediction for Multi-view Video Coding

With a wide range of viewing angles, the multi-view video can provide more realistic feeling at arbitrary viewpoints. However, because of a huge amount of data from multiple cameras, we need to develop an efficient coding method. One of the promising approaches for multi-view video coding is view synthesis prediction which generates an additional reference frame. In this paper, we explain the p...

Camera Arrangement in Visual 3D Systems using Iso-disparity Model to Enhance Depth Estimation Accuracy

In this paper we address the problem of automatic arrangement of cameras in a 3D system to enhance the performance of depth acquisition procedure. Lacking ground truth or a priori information, a measure of uncertainty is required to assess the quality of reconstruction. The mathematical model of iso-disparity surfaces provides an efficient way to estimate the depth estimation uncertainty which ...

Block-based Illumination Compensation and Search Techniques for Multiview Video Coding

We consider block-based interview coding techniques for multiview video sequences that are robust to illumination variations across views. We consider both global illumination differences which could be due to lack of camera calibration or heterogeneity, as well as local ilumination changes caused by lack of camera aligment. We propose a two-parameter model for illumination compensation (IC) th...

Disparity map coding for 3D teleconferencing applications

In this paper we present a combination of three steps to code a disparity map for 3D teleconferencing applications. First we introduce a new disparity map format, the chain map, which has a very low inherent redundancy. Additional advantages of this map are: one single bidirectional map in stead of the usual two unidirectional vector fields, explicit indication of occlusions, no upper or lower ...
